Friday, July 6th, 2007
ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order worth $9.5 million from Rosia Montana Gold Corporation (RMGC). This is ABB’s first contract with RMGC. Rosia Montana is a small village in western Romania and the site is of one of the largest gold deposits in whole Europe.
For the company’s Gold Project ABB will deliver one 15 MW Gearless Mill Drive (GMD) system for a 36 feet semiautogenous mill. The GMD system includes ring motor, transformers, E-house, cycloconverter and ABB’s new powerful cycloconverter controller AC800 PEC.
Delivery of the material will take place at the end of 2008, while as start up of the project is scheduled for summer 2009.
ABB was able to offer a well known and approved technology; in 2003 ABB has delivered two 15 MW GMD systems to Newcrest’s Telfer gold mine in Australia. The system delivered to Rosia Montana will be a duplicate of the Telfer units, but of course updated with the latest design improvements.
