ABB wins contract for a Greenfield copper-gold project in Chile

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announce that it has won an approximately â‚¬24 million order from Antofagasta Minerals S.A. The Esperanza copper-gold mine will be located in Antofagasta, in Chileâ€™s II region, in the northern part of Chile.
The contract became effective in July 2007. Production start is scheduled to take place at the end of 2010 and in its first ten years of operation Esperanza is expected to produce an annual average of approximately 700,000 tonnes of concentrate containing 195,000 tonnes of payable copper, 229,000 ounces of payable gold and 1,556,000 ounces of payable silver.
ABBâ€™s scope of supply consists of one gearless mill drive (GMD) system for a 40 feet 22.38MW semiautogenous mill and GMD systems for two 27 feet 18.60MW ball mills. The scope of supply includes gearless mill drive motors, cycloconverter transformers and excitation transformers. Furthermore ABB delivers E-houses, cycloconverters, a drive system local control boxes, gearless drive motor stator structural analysis as well as interface engineering for the drive systems. Spare parts, training and services are also included in the deliveries.
