Linatex have recently installed and commissioned the very first Genesis Hydracyclone® in the UK for their client Celtic Energy.
Celtic Energy Ltd is the leading Coal Mining Company in Wales. And produces over 1 million tonnes of high quality coal per year from their sites in South Wales for domestic, industrial and electricity generation demand in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.
As the leading Welsh energy producer Celtic Energy is a Welsh company whose mission is to be the energy supplier of choice by delivering the best value product to its customers. Celtic manages its assets on a long term, lowest cost, environmentally sound basis with constant attention to quality and service.
The Genesis Hydrocyclone® size 250 has been installed at their Onllwyn Washery at Neath, South Wales. Replacing an existing competitors unit the hydrocyclone is deployed on coal fines recovery.
With a desire to recover fine coal, typically 1.5mm – 0.25mm, the existing unit recovered 15 tph; however in an effort to obtain higher throughputs the result was a ‘roping’ discharge, indicating overloading of the unit. By utilizing CFD modeling, the new Linatex Genesis Hydrocyclone® selected has proven to be proficient in recovering the fine coal required, resulting in an increased throughput.
Leighton Gray, General Manager, Coal Processing and Logistics, commented, “We are extremely pleased with the performance we have achieved with the Genesis particularly given its compact size. We hope to add a second unit early next year.”
The Genesis Hydrocyclone® utilizes Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling and specialist design principles resulting in improved classification efficiency and product recovery.
An interchangeable inlet wedge is a unique feature of the Linatex Genesis Hydrocyclone®. This wedge allows operators the opportunity to quickly change the size of the inlet and fine-tune the cyclone’s performance without physically removing it from the process line.
Feed slurry is introduced into the cyclone in a tall narrow ribbon via a scrolled, swept inlet entry. This maximises separation forces, reduces turbulence and improves classification efficiency.
Genesis Hydrocyclone® are fitted with moulded replaceable liners, 20mm to 30mm thick, to maximise wear life and minimise operating costs.
