In 2006, HAZEMAG & EPR GmbH in Dülmen received a contract from CEMEX, a global building materials company, for the supply of a HAZEMAG Rapid Dryer to process clay of varying moisture content to be installed in its Broceni plant in Latvia. Extensive trials in HAZEMAG’s own test plant proved the HAZEMAG Rapid Dryer to be the ideal solution to the problem of pre-drying and de-agglomerating the clay prior to its further processing. The continuously-operating dryer has been designed to handle feed material containing 16 – 25 % H20 at a rate of 100 – 120 t/h, generating a product with a residual moisture content of some 8 – 10 %. In this drying process, the wet clay is agitated by twin paddle shafts, whilst at the same time being subjected to the uninterrupted thermal effect of the hot drying gases
Thanks to its impressive size the dryer model selected for this application has attracted great media attention. The two agitator shafts are each 1,800 mm in diameter and 6,100 mm long. The dryer housing is approx. 9.1 m long, 4.5 m wide and 7 m high (If the framework for the inner, height-adjustable partition walls is taken into consideration, the overall height is in fact 8.7 m).
The fabrication of the HAZEMAG Rapid Dryer has now been completed on schedule. In addition to the dryer, HAZEMAG is also supplying the two double pendulum flap gates as feed and discharge units. At the time of the acceptance inspection, HAZEMAG & EPR GmbH was congratulated by the CEMEX inspectors for very good fabrication standards and handling of the order.
The HAZEMAG Rapid Dryer is planned to be installed in CEMEX Broceni plant in Latvia during summer 2008 and starts operations by the end of same year.
