Local business launched to lead the way in Health & Safety training.
Tuesday, March 24th, 2009
In response to the Health & Safety (Offences) Act 2008, which came into force in January 2009, Grimsby based ForeFront Training has been launched to offer companies throughout the country a range of cost effective, dynamic, practical and motivational health & safety training courses.
Specialists in Manual Lifting and Handling Training, ForeFront offer a complete service, tailored to individual business requirements and if necessary around existing work patterns, to enable organisations to comply with current legislation regarding health and safety.
The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 places an absolute duty on employers to provide suitable and sufficient training to all staff, for their health, safety and welfare. Non compliance with this has resulted in substantial costs and fines, notwithstanding damage to reputation. The implementation of the new H&S (Offences) Act in January 2009 saw fines of up to £20,000 and/or prison sentences introduced for failures to comply. Previous fines of up to £5,000 meant that some organisations paid lip service to health and safety in the workplace. The new fines structure will serve to raise employer awareness of duties and responsibilities and will eventually result in a reduction of accidents and injuries.
Dave McDonald, Principal Consultant and Head Trainer at ForeFront explains:
“Health and Safety is evolving and moving away from traditional concepts taught by many in house teams and trainers. Many Manual Handling programmes are still delivered, using the outdated ‘knees bent, back straight’ approach, which has been superseded by more modern practices.”
“At ForeFront, we have incorporated the latest developments in health & safety practice into hands-on courses tailored to each company we work with. Manual handling requirements vary tremendously between industries and we teach by applying the latest techniques to each company’s individual working environment. Rather than concentrating entirely on theory, our trainers use practical, on-site examples and materials to ensure that participants on our courses gain relevant experience in best practice that they can use in their everyday working lives.”
He went on to say…
“With the new H&S (Offences) Act now in place, it has never been more important for all employers to ensure that staff are taught safe working practices. Prevention is better than the cure and as the biggest cause of accident/injury in the workplace, Manual Handling, accounts for over a third of all Lost Time Accidents (LTA) at a cost to industry of over £1 billion annually. This figure can be drastically reduced by the implementation of relevant training solutions.”
As Health and Safety consultants and providers of health and safety training, ForeFront are specialists in the design and delivery of accredited Manual Lifting and Handling training courses. They also offer other IOSH and CIEH approved health and safety training courses, solutions and consultancy services across a diverse range of industries and business sectors.
