JCB Celebrates 40 Years of Queen’s Awards Success with New Honours
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
TWO JCB companies producing heavy construction equipment are today honoured with Queen’s Awards for Enterprise to mark substantial growth in exports.
JCB Earthmovers, of Cheadle, Staffordshire and JCB Heavy Products, of Uttoxeter, Staffordshire both receive an Award in the International Trade category. It takes the number of Queen’s Awards won by the JCB Group since 1969 to 25 – thought to be a national record.
JCB CEO Matthew Taylor said: “We’re extremely proud to have won two Queen’s Awards for 2009, particularly as they honour businesses whose reputation for producing high quality heavy construction equipment has been growing rapidly around the world. For JCB Heavy Products, the Award is made for the period before the company moved to its new £40 million factory in Uttoxeter, a facility which will help us make even greater progress with our excavator product in the future.
“The Awards are not only tremendous recognition for the quality of JCB’s products but also a huge pat on the back for every single one of our employees who work for the two JCB companies being recognised. The Queen’s Awards are one of the most widely recognised and independent ways for successful UK businesses to be honoured and to have won 25 Awards in the past 40 years is a huge achievement.”
JCB Earthmovers, which manufactures wheeled loading shovels and articulated dump trucks, increased overseas sales by nearly 80 per cent between 2005 and 2008 and its products are exported to 78 different countries. JCB Heavy Products produces tracked and wheeled excavators weighing up to 46 tonnes. Exports have increased by more than 60 per cent since 2006 and its machines are sold in more than 70 countries. Both companies last won Queen’s Awards in 2006.
