WYG experts update mine working guidance

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Expert consultants from WYG have been appointed to rewrite a 25-year-old mine working manual.
WYG Engineering will write the ‘RP 940 Historic Mineworkings Manual’ and update the ‘CIRIA SP 32 Construction Over Abandoned Mine Workings’ publication – demonstrating its world class expertise in the area.
The proposed new publication will be an authoritative and comprehensive guide on the management, post abandonment after-care and development over, and in the vicinity of, abandoned mineworkings sites.
Also to be covered in the new guide are site investigations, mining investigations, consolidation of old mine workings, remedial measures and foundation design options.
John Ottaway, Director, WYG Engineering said; “Our people have the knowledge and expertise to deliver when it really matters. Our involvement in this project acknowledges that we are leading the way in dealing with the impact of historic mine workings”.
Work on the new guide is necessary to update and extend the existing guidance, providing further information on health and safety issues, the legislative framework, the planning regime and environmental considerations.
The publication was first published in 1984 and will take around 18 months to complete.
