Between January and September 2017, JSC Shubarkol Komir, owned by Eurasian Resources Group (“ERG”), a leading diversified natural resources producer, mined 7,626 kt of coal. Production increased by  32.7% compared with the same period in 2016, when coal output amounted to 5,743 kt. The preliminary total production target for 2017 is approximately 10,800 kt of coal.

ERG is a key producer of thermal coal and a strategic supplier of energy to Kazakhstan, with a total capacity of 30 mln tonnes of coal per annum at all its plants and resources sufficient for 100 years of mining. Its Shubarkol coal has an ash content of just 4% and a calorific value of up to 6,000 kcal/kg. These unique characteristics make it highly beneficial for house heating. ERG exports thermal coal to more than 20 countries in Europe, Asia and beyond.

Shubarkol Komir is upgrading the coal screening facilities at its preparation plant and conducting a feasibility study on constructing a new special coke plant. Shubarkol Komir coal is used as thermal coal and also as a nut coke substitute for ferroalloys and silicon production.
