The second Ethiopian International Mining Conference and Exhibition

In 2017, Ethiopia was the fastest growing economy in the world averaging over 9% during the last decade. It witnessed a 167% increase in Foreign Direct Investment over the last 5 years, totaling US$ 3.5 billion.

Independent experts believe that Western Ethiopia potentially has the largest gold deposits in Africa.

The country is gaining notoriety in the global gemstone market: 2,290 kgs of emeralds were exported (2017) and sapphires ( 2016) were also discovered in the Tigray Regional State.

Ethiopia could challenge the Australian opal. Between 2000 – 2014, Ethiopia’s export of opals increased by 136.6%.

The country is also the sixth biggest producer of tantalum worldwide. Industrial minerals could make Ethiopia a leading export hub.

Ethiopia is perfectly placed to satisfy global battery minerals demand with graphite reserves of estimated 460,000 tons at the Moyale deposit. Lithium has also been identified in the salt brines of Southern Ethiopia and the Afar rift.

EIMC’S 2019 main theme will be “Transforming potential into production by creating an attractive mining investment framework”. EIMC 2019, will be an all-encompassing two-day mining event including a mining industry conference, trade exhibition, as well as numerous networking opportunities.
