Yakutia expects to increase coal production to 52 million tonnes this year, the eastern Russian region’s industry minister, Maxim Tereschenko said on Telegram.
“In 2025, Yakutia plans to set a new record and mine at least 52 million tonnes of coal,” he wrote.
This would be a 5.1% increase over 2024, when Yakutia ramped up coal production by 30% to 49.5 million tonnes, making it the largest coal mining region in the Far East Federal District and second largest in Russia.
Regional industry ministry data showed that Yakutia mined 13.3 million tonnes of coal in the first quarter of 2025.
