Caterpillar has announced a new suite of advanced safety technology options for its next generation Caterpillar (Cat) medium wheel loaders.
The new features are designed to elevate safety and operational efficiency across a range of demanding applications.
A highlight of the new suite is the optional collision warning system with motion inhibit, now available across the Cat 950 through to 982 models, including XE variants.
This fully integrated package is engineered to enhance safe machine operation by combining object detection, people detection and motion inhibit features.

“Our new optional collision warning system with motion inhibit includes object detection, people detection and motion inhibit as a package to improve safe operation by alerting operators and inhibiting loader motion in the instant a machine transitions from an inactive to an active state,” Caterpillar global product application specialist for medium wheel loaders Frank Stadelmann said.
The new system used radar and vision sensors to detect hazard potential, alert operators and inhibit motion when initiating reverse motion from a stationary position.
It also features a three-zone colour-coded alert system of yellow (awareness), amber (caution) and red (critical), which indicates the distance of objects behind the loader.
If an object is detected in the critical red zone while the machine is stationary, motion inhibit prevents reverse movement until the hazard is cleared.

People detection further improves safety by identifying individuals behind the machine and displaying red bounding boxes on the in-cab monitor with the alert levels automatically adjusting based on proximity.
Caterpillar has also introduced the Cat payload for trade option as part of its evolving payload management systems.
Building on its advanced payload platform, the new system delivers certified scale data that integrates directly into business operations.
“The new Cat payload for trade option builds on our advanced payload scale system that electronically captures weight and other data from the loader, now in a certified way, and can send it to the office or directly via email,” Stadelmann said.
Additional upgrades include features such as auto set tires, auto-dig, programmable kickouts, machine speed limit, tire pressure monitoring system, remote flash and remote troubleshoot.
