Fresh from the launch of its updated Climate Transition Plan, Fortescue Metals Group has announced a series of high-level partnerships to further advance its net zero agenda.
The company has signed agreements with several recognised green energy innovators, including electric vehicles and battery manufacturer BYD; solar technology developer LONGi; construction and mining equipment manufacturer XCMG; and wind and energy storage leader Envision Energy.
The agreements build on Fortescue’s global innovation ecosystem. European equipment manufacturer Liebherr is part of that network, and plays a role in decarbonising Fortescue’s mining fleet.
Fortescue has also recently finalised the acquisition of Spanish renewable technology company Nabrawind.
Executive chairman Andrew Forrest said the company was leading the industry on decarbonisation by partnering with the world’s best technology and manufacturing players.
“The world once benefitted from open trade and cooperation – now it is divided,” he said.
“Fortescue is showing that industry can help glue back that multilateral spirit, not through rhetoric but through practical alliances that prove heavy industry can follow a new path – one where profits rise as emissions fall.”
Forrest also commended the ambition of the partnership network.
“This is a truly multilateral collaboration that draws on the best ideas and manufacturing capacity to deliver the lowest cost energy and tackle climate change,” he said.
“By joining forces across continents, we are seizing the full extent of the decarbonisation opportunity and rebuilding the cooperation the world needs to address the climate crisis.”
