Metso is set to acquire the recycling operations and induction heating technology development capabilities owned by Finland-based TL Solution.
The acquisition will enhance Metso’s mill lining recycling technology development and customer service capabilities, with the company having launched its Poly-Met mill liner recycling services using induction heating technology in 2022.
Metso’s Megaliner composite liners and rubber mill liners can also be processed using the recycling service.
“Metso started mill lining recycling development already more than 10 years ago,” Metso senior vice president mill lining business line Martin Karlsson said.
“The acquired technology will strengthen our recycling technology development capabilities based on induction heating. The technology is a first-of-its-kind service, and we are proud to take the next step in this journey.”
The acquisition will also expand the relationship between Metso and TL Solution, which initially saw both companies collaborate to develop recycling technology.
“Following our successful collaboration with TL Solution, we are now adopting this unique separation technology and operations in-house,” Karlsson said.
“This move reinforces our commitment to sustainable innovation and circularity in mining.”
The acquisition is expected to be completed in August.
Metso’s mill liner recycling service help to safely and efficiently separate various rubber and metal liner components, including cast inserts, wear plates, and backing plates. It is part of the Metso Plus portfolio, which is considered to be more energy- or water-efficient than the industry benchmark.
Metso also has an established process for recycling metallic mill liners, enabling metal components from equipment to be recovered and re-processed to use in new products.
Metso currently provides recycling services to mining customers throughout Europe and the Nordic region and offers mill liner recycling services in Chile. Metso plans to expand this offering to North America.
