Queensland is targeting new opportunities for local mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies in Latin America, with the state government conducting a trade mission to Chile, Peru and Colombia.
The mission will focus on expanding critical minerals collaboration and aims to facilitate new deals with METS companies, building on Queensland’s growing relationship with Latin America, where the state’s goods exports increased 20.5 per cent to $1.5 billion in 2025-26.
“Queensland businesses have the skills, products and expertise these markets are looking for, and we want to turn that into more customers, more contracts and more jobs back home,” Queensland employment and training minister Ros Bates said.
“Latin America is a natural fit for Queensland because our economies share strengths in sectors such as resources and mining.
“By strengthening our ties within Latin America, we are strengthening the foundation for more resilient supply chains, greater market access and stronger relationships that will deliver long-term prosperity for our state.”
The trade mission will put the recently launched Queensland-Latin America Trade and Investment Strategy 2026-2028 into action, with regional Queensland businesses in resources, mining and technology expected to benefit.
The state government said stronger relationships with Latin American markets could also provide opportunities for local businesses to secure contracts, expand exports and support local jobs.
