Rio Tinto has increased its spending with Australian suppliers over the previous year, with a record near-$20 billion spent with more than 6000 different suppliers.
The move represents a $2 billion increase on the year previous and helps support jobs and businesses across the country.
“Our suppliers are fundamental to our operations. We are proud to acknowledge the vital role these Australian businesses play in creating jobs, strengthening local economies and supporting our business,” Rio Tinto iron ore chief executive Matthew Holcz said in a statement.
“We have expanded our spend with our Australian suppliers to $19.7 billion in 2025 – that’s an extra $2 billion spent with businesses across the nation compared with the previous year. This reflects the outstanding work our supplier partners do every day, and it means more value flowing to local and regional economies.”
Money was also spent in Western Australia, where the lion’s share of operations are located for the company, with projects such as Rhodes Ridge, Paraburdoo and Greater Hope Downs iron ore operations.
A record $1.1 billion was also spent with Indigenous businesses, including $820 million with Traditional Owner businesses.
Almost $10 billion was paid by Rio Tinto in taxes and royalties in 2025 in Australia.
