Adani Australia’s construction of the Carmichael mine and rail project in Queensland is progressing to schedule despite the arrival of the wet season.
On-site workforce is set to increase significantly over the coming weeks when construction of Adani’s three rail accommodation camps is completed.
This is part of Adani’s commitment to deliver 1500 jobs during the construction and ramp up phase of the Carmichael project.
According to Adani, there are more than 200 workers on-site at any given time.
Adani’s first 600 tonne mining excavator is now complete after an eight-week building period.
“The mine and rail construction sites are a hive of activity,” Adani Mining chief executive Lucas Dow said.
“Our contractors are expanding our worker’s accommodation villages, building new ones, assembling equipment, building roads and dams, doing earthworks and delivering our environmental management systems among other things.”
Adani has also awarded contracts to Martinus Rail and Decmil, which are worth $100 million and $40 million respectively, for the Carmichael rail project.
Mendi Group has secured a $15 million contract for civil engineering works.
Adani has signed nearly three quarters of a billion dollars’ worth of contracts for the construction of the Carmichael project.
