CIMIC group has promoted Juan Santamaria as the company’s chief executive and managing director, effective immediately.

Santamaria is stepping up from his former position as managing director of CPB Contractors, bringing his experience in construction, services and public-private partnerships.

The new chief executive takes over from Michael Wright who has accepted a new leadership role within the CIMIC Group, which is yet to be announced.

With more than 18 years’ experience in managing businesses within the construction sector across five continents, CIMIC Group chairman Marcelino Fernández Verdes is confident Santamaria will continue the company’s sustainable growth.

“Santamaria is a highly regarded leader with a strong understanding of CIMIC’s entire operations and a total commitment to our clients and developing our people,” Verdes said.

“I’d like to thank Wright for his dedication and achievements during his time as CEO. With almost 25 years’ experience in our group, the board and I are pleased that Wright’s expertise will be retained within our business.”

Looking ahead, Santamaria’s focus is to continue CIMIC Group’s high levels of performance and further build the company’s culture.

“I am honoured to have been appointed as CEO and managing director,” Santamaria said.

“CIMIC is an outstanding company, with a 40,000 strong team delivering leading, innovative work for our clients and communities.”

Santamaria’s other previous notable roles include being managing director of UGL and executive general manager of public-private partnerships and construction west at CPB Contractors.
