Swiss technology firm ABB has commissioned its asset condition monitoring software at Shanyang Coal Mine located in Heyang in the Chinese province of Shaanxi.

The deployment of the ABB Ability Asset Vista Condition Monitoring platform forms part of a contract awarded by Shaanxi Chenghe Shanyang Coal Mine.

The technology vendor said at that its platform will allow the mining company to streamline maintenance, reduce costs and optimise capacity at the coal mine.

The Shanyang Coal Mine has a production capacity of three million tonnes of coal annually. Its main equipment includes a production hoist, two service hoists and one main ventilation system.

Shaanxi Chenghe Shanyang Coal Mine Chongyun Zhang said: “We have benefitted from ABB’s expertise in hoists and brake systems previously, and know that ABB also has a strong track record in building unified IT frameworks.”

The software solution offered to Shanyang include a data acquisition system, five workstations, network devices and ABB Ability Asset Vista to enable complete monitoring of three hoists and the main ventilation system of the mine.

ABB said that by pulling together disparate data on the equipment’s condition, the ABB Ability Asset Vista for mining provides a complete health picture of asset thus helping in improving process efficiency while reducing maintenance.

In addition to predicting potential problems and detecting root cause, the solution provides full-time online monitoring capabilities such as functions including intelligent algorithms on evaluation system operation among others.
