Swedish networking and telecommunications supplier Ericsson and mapping and geolocation data company HERE Technologies teamed up to develop services for the global mining industry. The partnership was announced during the CES technology event in Las Vegas and is expected to include Latin American miners, one of Ericsson’s five main focuses when it comes to private cellular network projects in the region.
Ericsson and HERE said they will provide smart mining capabilities to the industry, from mapping private terrain to pinpointing and navigating assets in real time. HERE joined Ericsson’s industry 4.0 partner ecosystem, which includes players such as ABB, HMS, Dell, Cisco, Siemens and GE.
“We are partnering with HERE because of the breadth of their location services – ranging from mapping to routing, positioning and asset tracking. Combining our advanced private network solutions with HERE services will give mining firms a head start on their digitalization journey,” Thomas Norén, Ericsson’s head of dedicated network, said in a statement.
