  • Metso Outotec has revealed the latest addition to its mill discharge (MD) pump series, the MDM900, for use in heavy-duty concentrator plants.

The MDM900 is now the largest pump manufactured by Metso Outotec and has raised the benchmark for MD pumps around the world.

With heavy-duty use in mind, the pump is designed with thick, all-metal walls to resist the harshest concrete mill duties.

This cutting-edge pump comes with an inlet size of 900 millimetres (mm), and is fitted with a FR2100 frame and an impeller diameter of 2100mm.

The MDM900 is designed for flows of up to 3500 cubic metres per hour and heads up to 40 meters.

Metso Outotec product manager for MD Pump Diwakar Aduri said slurry handling is vital in maximising a minerals processing plant’s productivity and efficiency.

“The advanced design of the MDM900 enables minimised slurry velocities in the pumps, thus reducing the rate of wear significantly. This translates to increased uptime and productivity for our customers,” Aduri said.

“We are also proud to have implemented many environmentally sustainable design initiatives in the MDM900 pump.”

Some examples of the pump’s sustainability include its standard low-flow shaft seal, which reduces the freshwater required to operate the MDM900.

The announcement of the MDM900 comes after Metso Outotec’s milestone in support services last December, which saw the company secure 100 life cycle services (LCS) agreements in 2021.

More recently, Liontown Resources awarded Metso:Outotec a contract for a semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill for its Kathleen Valley lithium project near Leinster in Western Australia (WA).

The approximately $10 million contract is inclusive of all lining, lubrication, cooling, electrical and mechanical drive systems necessary for installation and commissioning.
