South Cross Electrical Engineering (SCEE) has won $50 million in contracts with BHP in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The diversified contractor last made headlines with BHP in November 2021 when it was first chosen to construct a village security proposal across multiple projects.
This recent $50 million package now includes further works on the village security project, with upgrades to access, lighting and monitoring systems all scheduled for completion by June 2022.
At BHP Iron Ore’s Nelson Point operations at Port Hedland, SCEE’s electrical business arm was awarded an electrical and instrumentation (E&I) package by the principal contractor of the Port Debottlenecking project (PDP1), CPB Contractors.
SCEE will provide on-site assembly, installation and construction verification of all E&I components on greenfields and brownfields sites.
This package is due to commence in May and be completed in the second quarter of 2023.
SCEE Group managing director Graeme Dunn said these contracts allowed the company to showcase its breadth of expertise.
“I am pleased we continue to win work in WA’s iron ore sector which has been a very strong area for us in recent times,” he said.
“In my belief, to have won significant further works on the villages upgrades demonstrates how well our businesses around the SCEE Group are working together in delivering this multi-technology solution.”
The company has origins in electrical contracting but has diversified over the past six years to cater to commercial, infrastructure, defence, telecommunications, industrial, energy and utilities work – more broadly categorised as the infrastructure, commercial and resources sectors.
The resources sector remains the smallest of the three, with revenue for the 2021 financial year of $46.2 million, compared to more than $100 million in the former two sectors.
However, SCEE has been a part of some significant projects in the past few years.
This has included multiple contracts with Rio Tinto in November of 2021 and 2020, and major works to Albemarle’s Kemerton lithium plant in 2019.
