New Century
The Century mine in Queensland is a historic Australian operation.

New Century Resources has announced that it has achieved two major operational milestones.

The milestones were a rolling 12-month total recordable injury frequency rate (TRIFR) of zero at its operations and 1 million tonnes (Mt) of zinc concentrate produced since the recommencement of operations at the Century mine in 2018.

“The New Century team has delivered an outstanding safety result by achieving a zero TRIFR, further affirming its best-in-class safety culture and practices,” New Century managing director and chief executive officer Robert Cooper said.

“This underpins our culture as we look to grow the company, with the entire organisation now redoubling our focus on maintaining this standard.

“We also celebrate having now produced more than 1Mt of zinc concentrate via hydraulic mining operations, with a production profile that places the company within the top-15 global producers of zinc.”

The company produced 29,276 tonnes of zinc for the December 2022 quarter, which Copper said was a pleasing result against a backdrop of a planned major shutdown and weather events during the north-west Queensland wet season.

Despite some delays, New Century is also advancing its Mt Lyell copper restart project in Tasmania.

“The results from New Century’s Mt Lyell copper mine pre-feasibility study (PFS) are planned to be released before the end of January 2023, following a final review of the additional work completed in recent months,” Cooper said.

“Delays to the PFS have resulted from identified opportunities being further explored
prior to completion, to reaffirm the robustness of the positive results, and has allowed the
commencement of some work that would otherwise be completed as part of the feasibility study.”

New Century will release a more detailed quarterly activities report before the end of January.
