Deputy Chief Minister Nicole Manison is set to lead a delegation in India to attract critical minerals and energy industry investment.
India was identified as a priority market in the NT’s 2022–2026 international engagement strategy as one of 10 key trading partners of the NT.
Manison said the aim of the trip is to grow two-way trade and strengthen relationships with India as the net-zero push drives demand for critical minerals.
“India is global economic super power and we want to build trade ties which will diversify and boost the Northern Territory economy,” she said.
“The Territory is a world-class investment destination and we are well placed to be a new supplier of critical minerals to India.”
The NT delegation will travel to Mumbai, Chennai and Kerala between October 8–13 for trade and investment meetings.
Manison will meet with Government officials and key decision makers in the energy industry, as well as manufacturing companies including Tata Group, Kerala Minerals and Metals and the Indo-Australia Chamber of Commerce.
“We can support India’s ambitions to reduce emissions from its energy network and establish itself as a hub for renewable energy technologies, while creating jobs for Territorians and boosting our economy,” Manison said.
A key focus of the mission is the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the NT Government and Kerala State Government.
Five members of the Darwin Indian business community will join the NT Government in Kerala to participate in key events with the State Government on October 11.
The NT delegation hope the business community members will play a significant role in promoting the NT as an ideal place to live, work and invest.
“The agreement with Kerala State Government will help strengthen these partnerships between the Territory and India,” Manison said.
