First Quantum said it had suspended commercial production at its Cobre Panama mine after the Panama Supreme Court declared that the Canadian miner’s contract to operate a lucrative copper mine in the country was unconstitutional.
The company added that it was “applying a program of Preservation and Safe Maintenance to ensure the compliance and environmental integrity of the site.”
